National Award-winning actor Vikrant Massey has opened up about the prejudice he faced while transitioning from television to Bollywood. Recalling the early days of his film career, the ’12th Fail’ star revealed that many doubted his abilities simply because he came from television. Reflecting on his two-decade journey, Vikrant also spoke about breaking stereotypes, the lasting impact of ‘Balika Vadhu’, and his gratitude for the audience’s unwavering support.Speaking to IANS, the actor recalled how some people questioned his abilities because of his television background. Massey said, “When I came from television to films, many people used to say, ‘He is a TV actor, what will he do? He doesn’t know how to work.'”Vikrant also shared his views on judging people based on their professional or socio-economic background. According to the actor, a person’s capabilities are determined by talent and hard work rather than where they come from.Massey said, “And not just TV, I think if you come from any socio-economic background, that can’t decide whether you are capable or not. It depends on your ability whether you are capable or not. So I don’t believe at all that where you come from or what your background is.”The actor emphasised that he has never believed labels or backgrounds should define an individual’s potential.

Looking back on his career, Vikrant expressed gratitude for the continued support he has received from audiences. He said he feels fortunate that viewers continue to watch both his older projects and his recent work after more than two decades in the industry.Sharing his thoughts, Vikrant said, “I think my journey has been blessed. It’s been 20-22 years. Sometimes we sit at home and talk about how many years it has been. I am full of gratitude. I am really grateful that even after so many years, people are taking out their time to watch my old work. They are spending their money to watch what I am doing. I am really, really grateful.”The actor added that such appreciation motivates him to continue working with sincerity.Speaking about what keeps him going, he said, “This is the only thing that gives you the courage to go out there and give it back to people through your stories or through whatever you can do in your limited capacity.”
‘Balika Vadhu’ still holds a special place
Vikrant also reflected on the enduring popularity of Balika Vadhu, saying people continue to recognise him for his performance even after nearly two decades. The actor noted that many viewers still revisit the show online, something he considers deeply rewarding.Over the years, Vikrant successfully transitioned from television to films, earning appreciation for performances in projects such as A Death in the Gunj, 12th Fail, Sector 36, and the Haseen Dillruba franchise. He was recently honoured with the National Award for his performance in 12th Fail.
‘Musafir Cafe’ set for release
On the professional front, Vikrant will next be seen in ‘Musafir Cafe’, a romantic drama series directed by Ruchir Arun and created and written by Sharanya Rajgopal.’ ‘Musafir Cafe’ is scheduled to premiere on OTT on July 24.
