Businessman and former senior advisor to the US president Elon Musk has been quite vocal about his opinion on Christopher Nolan’s latest film, ‘The Odyssey.’ From criticizing the casting choices to calling out the director for his ‘integrity’, Musk has not skipped a moment to share his honest opinions about the film with the public. Here is a compilation of most of the comments that he has made in the past few months, ever since Nolan announced his film.
Elon Musk’s comment about Lupita Nyong’o
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Musk had commented about how displeased he was with Nolan’s casting choices, specifically with Lupita Nyong’o and Elliot Page. Nyong’o, who plays the role of Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in Greek mythology and the reason the Trojan War began, along with her identical sister, Clytemnestra. While talking about her casting, conservative commentator Matt Walsh criticized Nolan for choosing Lupita for the role and wrote in a post, “Not one person on the planet actually thinks that Lupita Nyong’o is ‘the most beautiful woman in the world.’ But Christopher Nolan knows that he would be called racist if he gave’ the most beautiful woman’ role to a white woman. Nolan is technically talented but a coward.” Replying to this, Musk had commented, “True” under the post.
Elon Musk also called out Christopher Nolan for casting Elliot Page in the film
Earlier this year the businessman had also reshared a couple of posts that had called out the director for casting Elliot Page in the film. Many of the comments had been transphobic in nature and directly commented about Page’s gender. He had also replied to one such post from his account and had written, “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity.” Elliot Page was earlier rumored to be cast as Achilles, one of Odysseus’ fallen comrades whom he encounters while in hell. However, it was later confirmed that Page played the role of Sinon, who was one of the warriors in his fleet, and had been tricked into joining the war by one of Penelope’s suitors. In Homer’s poems, while he was portrayed as Odysseus’ cousin, in the film he was portrayed as the son of a peasant.
Elon Musk on AI making ‘The Odyssey’ historically accurate
Recently, in an online post, Musk commented about how his social media platform’s AI system will create a “historically accurate” version of ‘The Odyssey’, unlike Nolan’s version. His post read, “Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.” Along with this, he also shared a couple of posts from an X user who shared a three-minute-long clip that they claimed was made through AI. The video showed a glimpse of Odysseus and the nymph Calypso’s conversation.
Elon Musk is down to fund Mel Gibson for another version of ‘The Odyssey’
A few days ago, a social media user had requested Elon Musk to fund filmmaker and actor Mel Gibson and give him USD 100 million. The person had commented that Musk should fund his project and get another version of ‘The Odyssey’ made that is historically accurate, including the ships, the armor, along with the weapons. In his reply, the man had simply replied in two words and had commented: “I’m down.”
Elon Musk created an AI version of ‘The Iliad’
Homer’s epic is divided into two poems: ‘The Iliad’, which chronicles the war in detail, and ‘Odyssey’, which covers the king’s perilous journey back home. A month ago, amidst all of the criticism he had shared about Nolan ahead of ‘The Odyssey’ release, he had used his own AI video tool to create a reimagined clip of ‘The Iliad.’ He had shared the post along with the caption, “Iliad (Troy) trailer made by Grok Imagine 1.5, which was just released.” The social media account Heavy Pulp had created the video, and had replied to Musk’s post by commenting, “Had a lot of fun putting this together for you all!”, to which Musk had replied by commenting, “Want to make a full movie?”
