After a long hiatus, Salman Khan is reportedly set to return to the celebrity chat show ‘Koffee With Karan’. The actor is said to have agreed to appear on the premiere episode of Season 9. If the report is confirmed, he will reportedly take the couch alone.The new season is expected to premiere around October or November 2026. The launch is likely to coincide with the Diwali period. Several names have been linked to the upcoming season. However, Salman Khan is reportedly being considered for the opening episode. According to Variety India, “Salman has confirmed his presence to Karan Johar for the premiere episode. While other details are being ironed out, they are in agreement that Khan should appear solo this year.”
Salman Khan’s reported solo appearance
Salman Khan has previously appeared on ‘Koffee With Karan’ on two occasions. His first visit came after he stayed away from the show during its initial three seasons. The actor made his debut on the couch during Season 4. Interestingly, he appeared in the season premiere. He later returned for Season 5 as the show marked its 100th episode. His previous appearances included members of his family. Salman Khan was accompanied by his father, writer Salim Khan, during part of his first appearance. His second visit featured his brothers Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. A solo episode would therefore be different from his earlier appearances on the programme.
Salman Khan and Karan Johar’s friendship
Salman Khan and Karan Johar have shared a close friendship for several years. Their professional association dates back to Karan Johar’s directorial debut, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. Salman Khan played Aman in the 1998 romantic drama. His casting became an important part of the movie’s story. Karan Johar had struggled to find the right actor for the role before Salman Khan agreed to join the project.
Karan Johar recalls Salman Khan’s first day
Karan Johar has previously shared an amusing memory from the making of ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. He recalled being extremely nervous about directing Salman Khan for the first time. Speaking on Manyavar’s YouTube channel, Karan Johar said, “It was my first time working with Salman Khan, and I was… what should I say? Completely wound up because he was such a huge star. On his first day on set, I walked into his van. He was in a T-shirt and jeans. I said, ‘Salman, you know it’s a big set.’ And he replied, ‘Yes, but if for the first time a groom comes in jeans and a T-shirt, it will be a new style. I’ll bring the swag.'”The filmmaker admitted that Salman Khan’s casual approach left him both excited and worried. He was unsure how the actor’s proposed look would work for the elaborate sequence.
Salman Khan eventually agreed to wear suit
Karan Johar recalled becoming emotional during the interaction. He said Salman Khan eventually realised how stressed he was about the situation. He continued, “I got so hyped but also so stressed thinking, ‘If he comes in jeans and a T-shirt, what will happen?’ I ended up crying right there in his vanity van.” The actor eventually reassured the filmmaker and agreed to change his outfit. “Salman looked nervous seeing me cry and finally said, ‘No, no, I’ll wear the suit.‘ And that’s how we shot my first-ever Sangeet song sequence,” concluded Karan Johar.The reported return of Salman Khan has already created interest around the upcoming season of ‘Koffee With Karan’. However, the reported solo appearance is yet to receive an official announcement from the makers. The complete guest lineup for Season 9 also remains under wraps.
