Nafisa Ali, the revered actress who has been battling cancer for nearly a decade, opened up about her upcoming film ‘Max, Min and Meowzaki.’ After winning multiple accolades from varied international film festivals, the comedy-drama is scheduled to release in theatres on July 24, 2026. The former beauty queen shared how the authentic plot resonates with viewers due to the issues and realities revolving around ageing.Here’s a closer look at Nafisa Ali opening up about ‘Max, Min and Meowzaki.’

Nafisa Ali hopes ‘Max, Min and Meowzaki’ reaches a wider audience

Nafisa Ali revealed that ‘Max, Min and Meowzaki’ discusses issues affecting young people, such as mental health, heartbreak, and emotional struggles, as well as the realities of ageing. “Ageing is a reality, and there are many issues related to it that we think very little about. It is important to bring out that sensitivity. This is a young film that has already been internationally appreciated and recognised,” the 69-year-old said to ANI.Furthermore, Ali noted that while theatrical viewing can be expensive for families, she wishes that more people could watch after the OTT release. “My wish is that families can watch it together at home because this is a story that touches your heart and changes your thinking,” she said to the outlet, before adding, “That is very important in Indian Cinema today.” Talking about the issues faced by young people, she claimed that such films can bring positive change in tackling psychological problems.

About ‘Max, Min and Meowzaki’

Written and directed by Padmakumar Narasimhamurthy, ‘Max, Min and Meowzaki’ features Siddharth Menon, Medha Shankr, Adil Hussain, Naseer, Nafisa Ali, Mandira Bedi, and Vidhatri Bandi. The film revolves around the young couple Max and Min, who have to deal with the aftermath of a breakup. However, the fight between them worsens over their one single possession, Meowzaki – the cat. The film’s theatrical release is on July 24, 2026.

Nafisa Ali’s cancer battle

Nafisa Ali was diagnosed with stage 3 peritoneal and ovarian cancer in 2018 and went into remission. However, the devastating disease returned last year. Opening up about how she went through the pain and the diagnosis, she said, “I knew my stomach pain was cancer, but doctors were not able to diagnose, and this led to stage 4. I came back to Delhi after two months, and I told my doctor, ‘I don’t agree with your diagnosis. There has to be something wrong with me,’” during a previous interview with Fit Tak.Ali broke down in front of the doctor, sharing that she had been incorrectly diagnosed. “I became very upset. I actually cried in front of the doctor and said, ‘I am the last person who goes to the doctor, and if I have come repeatedly, you have to take it seriously,’” she said, recalling how the professionals finally took notice of her disease.
