NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may have been making his India debut, but that did not stop him from sharing his thoughts with senior opening partner Abhishek Sharma during the second T20I against England at Old Trafford on Saturday. In a moment caught on the stump microphone, Abhishek was heard asking the 15-year-old about the nature of the pitch.Abhishek Sharma: “Samne jayegi ki piche maaru? Kya lagta hai?” (Should I play in front or go on the back foot? What do you think?)Sooryavanshi calmly replied. Sooryavanshi: “Dekh lo. Double bounce ho raha hai. Kyunki ye tez nahi aayi. Aur bounce bhi kam tha.” (See for yourself. The ball is bouncing twice because it isn’t coming on quickly, and the bounce is also low.)The exchange quickly grabbed attention, with fans appreciating the youngster’s confidence despite playing his first international match.

Historic debut for the teenager

Sooryavanshi’s much-awaited India debut finally came against England as he became the youngest cricketer to represent India in international cricket. At just 15 years and 99 days, the left-handed batter broke Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record of 16 years and 205 days to become India’s youngest international debutant. He also went past Piyush Chawla on the all-time list.

Fearless knock on debut

The Bihar youngster showed no signs of nerves during his brief stay at the crease. He scored 14 runs off just 10 balls, including two sixes. One of those came off England speedster Jofra Archer, while the other was struck against Josh Tongue. His entertaining innings ended when he charged down the pitch to Will Jacks and was stumped by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. While Sooryavanshi impressed with his fearless approach, Abhishek Sharma continued his fine form at the top of the order. The left-hander made 43 off just 24 deliveries, hitting eight fours and a six before Sam Curran dismissed him.
