Ravie Dubey is stepping into one of the most significant roles of his career with Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited ‘Ramayana’. The actor will portray Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Ram, played by Ranbir Kapoor, in the epic scheduled to arrive in theatres on November 6.For Dubey, being part of a project of this scale is more than another career milestone. The actor has described his association with the film as an “extraordinary moment” and said he has consciously tried to put aside personal ambitions while working on the project.

Reflecting on his experience of being part of ‘Ramayana’ in a conversation with Variety India, Dubey said he has repeatedly reminded himself of the larger purpose behind the film.“With this film, I have constantly reminded myself that the larger purpose of all of us coming together and that includes me is to bring glory to Shri Ram’s name. So whenever thoughts of ambition or achievement surfaced, I have tried to return to one solitary and solid sentiment, which is surrender,” he shared.The actor said the opportunity carries an even deeper significance because of the cultural connection audiences have with the story of Ram.“I am immensely grateful that something of this magnitude and canvas has materialised in my life. But precisely because it is so significant, I feel it is even more important for me to reconnect with that feeling of surrender and allow that perhaps to take precedence over everything else. In the country and the culture that we come from, we have grown up believing that to become even a small part of Ram Katha is among the greatest good fortunes one can receive. So for me, before this is an opportunity, an achievement, or even a debut, it is a blessing.”

Dubey also spoke warmly about working with Ranbir Kapoor, who essays Lord Ram in the film. While Kapoor’s casting has prompted varied reactions on social media, Dubey said his experience of working closely with the actor has left a strong impression on him.“I think Ranbir is simply the best we have. He is a superstar of epic proportions, but what has stayed with me even more is the human being and the artiste I have witnessed at close range.”He went on to praise Kapoor’s approach to his work and his conduct on set.“The sincerity with which he comes onto a set is unparalleled. His work ethic, etiquette, intensity and preparation; I had heard so much about these things, but I had the privilege of witnessing them firsthand. And alongside all of that is this incredibly grounded, warm and inclusive nature.”Dubey added that Kapoor’s stardom does not appear to affect the way he interacts with those around him.“There is no weight of his stardom in the way he interacts with people. I find that enormously inspiring.”

The actor also expressed gratitude for being part of a team that includes Ranbir Kapoor, director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, Yash and Sai Pallavi.“It is my great good fortune to be a part of this journey alongside Ranbir, Namit (Malhotra), Nitesh (Tiwari), Yash, Sai Pallavi and every single person associated with ‘Ramayana’.”

Before joining ‘Ramayana’, Dubey appeared in films including ‘U R My Jaan’, ‘3 Dev’ and ‘Farradday’. His television work and performance in the web series ‘Matsya Kaand’ have also been recognised by audiences. Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ is scheduled to release in theatres on November 6.
