Page Six reports that the upcoming season of the show will be its last, citing that Kimmel’s contract will not be renewed.“His contract is not getting extended,” a source familiar with the situation told the publication.The new season of the show is set to begin on Tuesday with the curtain call expected to be sometime around May 2027, which will also mark Kimmel’s final episode, according to the report. If the buzz turns out to be true, then it would mark the conclusion of a 24-year run for the late-night host.However, ABC Entertainment has pushed back against the report, describing the claims as ‘speculative’. A spokesperson for the network said, “any reports about the future of the show at this point are purely speculative.”Kimmel has hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live! since its launch in 2003, establishing himself as one of the longest-serving network late-night hosts in television history. He has also been known to keep his contract relatively flexible and negotiate year-to-year contracts.The reported end of the show comes amid significant changes in the late-night landscape. CBS also ended The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in May 2026.The rumoured end also comes amid Kimmel’s outspoken criticism of President Donald Trump. The host was involved in a particularly heated feud with Trump last year after making a controversial remark about first lady Melania Trump, saying she “had a glow like an expectant widow”. The joke came days before a third reported assassination attempt against the president and sparked further criticism of Kimmel.Kimmel, while discussing politics on ‘The Sarah Silverman Podcast’, also revealed that he has now obtained Italian citizenship. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel and Silverman spoke about how some celebrities have chosen to leave the United States after Trump’s return to the White House. That’s when he confirmed, “I did get Italian citizenship. I do have that.”Kimmel further described the current political climate in the U.S. as “so much worse” than expected, adding that it was “probably even worse than [Trump] would like it to be.”“What’s going on is… as bad as you thought it was going to be, it’s so much worse. It’s unbelievable. Like, I think it’s probably even worse than he would like it to be,” Kimmel said.
