Nepal has been reeling from devastating floods that have claimed numerous lives, leaving families grieving while several others remain unaccounted for. Amid the widespread struggle to recover, actor Sonu Sood made his way to Nepal to show solidarity with those affected and lend a hand in relief work. He also posted photos from the trip, looking at his efforts to support flood victims.
Sonu Sood faces backlash over visit
Sonu’s visit to Nepal drew mixed reactions, with praise pouring in from some quarters while others responded with skepticism. Among the critics was journalist Ajit Anjum, who took to social media to share his views. “If this isn’t Sonu Sood’s marketing, if not, then what is it? Just arrived in Nepal and has become the ‘guardian’ of the children there. Haven’t even started the work, and the marketing to turn him into a god has already kicked off,” his tweet read.
Sonu Sood hits back at criticism
The actor wasted no time responding to the criticism, writing back, “You are a good person, brother! Come to Nepal, both brothers will work together.”
Sonu Sood shares update from flood site
On Thursday, Sonu took to X to share a video of himself walking through and inspecting the flood-hit areas, noting that the flood’s impact was strong enough to reach even four-storey buildings. In another post carrying pictures from the site, he wrote, “Standing here today at the Trishuli River, where the floods have left behind unimaginable loss..broken homes, broken families, and lives changed forever. Nepal is not alone. I stand with its people, and I will do everything I can to bring hope, rebuild homes, and help families begin again.”
Sonu Sood on relief efforts
Talking to ANI on Wednesday, Sonu said, “We are here to meet the victims of the flood. We got lots of stuff from India. We just want to be with the people who are in need and will try to bring their lives back (on track), I think it’s everyone’s duty to do their part. We have a lot of blankets and food materials. We are still asking them what they need; we try to send it from India. Sending from India to Nepal is always a little challenge because we need a lot of people. But we will make sure that not only this month but also in thecoming months, the relief keeps coming.”
Sonu Sood’s visit amid rising death toll
According to the latest update from Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) issued on Thursday, the death toll from the flash floods has climbed to 1,252, with roughly 4,216 people still missing or unreachable. The authority also reported that about 11,993 people have been rescued so far, while 5,135 injured individuals have received medical care, of whom 301 were treated at hospitals, and the Nepali Army and Armed Police Force attended to 3,206 and 1,628 people, respectively.
