‘Hanuman Ansh’, a movie inspired by the life of Neem Karoli Baba, has emerged as an unexpected box-office sensation. What makes this more remarkable is that it was made on a shoestring budget of Rs 2 crore and was initially dismissed as a failure, before defying expectations and going on to earn multiple times its cost. Viewers who caught the film have become vocal admirers, and former cricketer Virender Sehwag is among those who’ve shared their take on it.
Virender Sehwag calls himself a devotee
Sehwag shared a video on Instagram and said, “Sita Ram… There are some people, some experiences, that you just don’t have words to describe. No amount of words can do them justice. Some of my old close friends are great devotees of Neem Karoli Baba Maharaj Ji. About 10 years ago, a friend told me about Maharaj Ji and his miracles. Since then, I have been reading and hearing about him. And I have always had a deep attraction towards Maharaj Ji.”He further stated that Maharaj Ji’s personality, his compassion, his grace, and the transformation he brought about in the lives of his devotees reflect the true nature of Maharaj Ji. He reconnected people with their true selves without explaining or expressing them. Most importantly, Maharaj’s grace and his divine powers are still visible in the lives of his devotees, even 53 years after his death.
Virender Sehwag reacts to the film
“I just watched the film Hanuman Ansh, based on the life of Maharaj Ji, a few days ago. It’s impossible to describe Maharaj Ji through a film. It’s beautifully made, very well written, and I think this film is a truly beautiful tribute to Maharaj Ji. One scene particularly touched me. Maharaj Ji has a snake around his neck, and a devotee says, ‘You are Shiva, absolutely innocent.’ Maharaj Ji replies, ‘You are innocent. The eyes see only what is in the mind, and the mind reflects only what is in the heart. Such saints come once in centuries. It’s impossible to understand Maharaj Ji, but it is certainly possible to catch a glimpse of him. And Hanuman captures that glimpse beautifully. ‘Hanuman Ansh’, penned and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, is a spiritual drama drawing from the life and teachings of Neem Karoli Baba, also known as Maharaj Ji. Shobhinaw Satyaa essays the role of Neem Karoli Baba, while Vihaan Shedge portrays Maharaj Ji at a different point in the narrative. Rounding out the cast are Chandan Anand, Purnima Tiwari, Anil K Rastogi and Gulshan Pandey. The film runs for 2 hours and 30 minutes and carries a U certificate.
