Ben Affleck, who has been active in the entertainment industry for over 45 years, has worked on some of Hollywood’s most popular projects. One of his most popular characters is Batman, the masked vigilante who looks over the city of Gotham and protects everyone who lives in it. Today’s quote is from one of his films where he played the role of the vigilante and opened up about how important it is to understand that you cannot let what happened to you in the past dictate where you head out to next. The quote of the day by Ben Affleck reads, “These scars we have make us who we are. We’re not meant to go back and fix them. And there’s nothing broken with you that needs to be fixed. Take it from an old guy who’s made a lot of mistakes. Don’t live in your past. Live your life.”

What does the quote of the day by Ben Affleck mean?

Affleck shared these words as Batman in a dialogue with Barry, aka the Flash, in the film ‘The Flash’. Inherently, he talks about self-acceptance, letting go of regret, and moving forward after emotional or physical trauma. Both The Flash and Batman have been through a lot of trauma in their lives and lost loved ones from an early age; however, Affleck’s quote is all about moving forward from everything and continuing with your life because there is no benefit in living in the past.Your painful experiences, mistakes, and trauma are not worthless suffering; they are the reason behind who you are today. It is not about whether it should have happened or not; no one can dictate what happens in life at the next moment. It is more about understanding that something has happened, grieving and dealing with the situation, and then moving ahead in life because of it.

In the scene, Barry tells Batman that he can travel back in the past to save his mother and change the course of his life. However, Affleck’s character refuses to encourage him. Trying to undo or rewrite past mistakes is a trap. You cannot alter or change anything about what happened already, and attempting to fix history prevents you from engaging with reality.Affleck’s words also provide a sense of comfort, for he mentions that no matter the scars that cover you, no matter what you did in the past, at the end of the day, etc., they do not make you ugly. They do not make you broken or ruined; instead, they become stories that you tell your friends and family. Living in the past means letting old guilt or grief dictate your present life and all the choices you make. The focus should be on building a future rather than replaying past failures.
