SS Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’ synopsis revealed: Mahesh Babu’s Rudhra faces asteroid threat with Priyanka Chopra, Prithviraj is tech-genius villain

Renowned filmmaker SS Rajamouli is working on his next mega project ‘Varanasi’ featuring Tollywood giant Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. As the film has completed over 80% of its shoot, it is getting close to its post-production stage. Now, a new synopsis of the film has now been revealed by a film’s marketing website.A plot from Sky-Blu Cinematix, the official brand partner of ‘Varanasi’, gives more details about the story and the characters played by the lead actors.

‘Varanasi’ synopsis revealed

According to the synopsis, Mahesh Babu plays Rudhra, an archaeologist and explorer. His character gets a major responsibility when the world faces a serious threat from a massive asteroid named Shambhavi.

Role of Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra’s characters

Rudhra has to travel across different parts of the world to find an ancient cosmic artifact. Priyanka Chopra Jonas plays Mandakini, a historian and skilled marksman who joins Rudhra on the dangerous mission.The title of the synopsis is, “A high-tech saga across the world.”It further reads, ”In the year 2027, the world faces an existential crisis as a massive asteroid named Shambhavi is on a direct collision course with the holy city of Varanasi. A rugged archaeologist and explorer, Rudhra (Mahesh Babu), is recruited for a high-stakes, globetrotting mission to recover an ancient cosmic artifact — joined by Mandakini (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), a fierce historian and skilled marksman.

Prithviraj Sukumaran as the main villain

The story will take the characters across different locations, making the film a global adventure. The synopsis also gives details about Prithviraj Sukumaran’s character. He plays Kumbha, who is described as a tech genius and the main villain of the film.The synopsis reads, “Their quest becomes a high-tech sci-fi thriller racing across the jungles of Africa, the icy wastes of Antarctica and the landscapes of Europe — pursued by the tech-genius villain Kumbha (Prithviraj Sukumaran). ‘Varanasi’ shooting status

SS Rajamouli recently in a conversation with a European magazine Tsounami revealed that the remaining shooting of the film will be held in Hyderabad. He also revealed that the team is aiming to wrap production before Dasara. Interestingly, the film has also been shot entirely using IMAX cameras.The music is composed by Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani.It is scheduled for a worldwide release on April 7, 2027.
