Tom Holland on Insomniac Games inspiration

However, the filmmakers have never hidden the fact that the Insomniac games served as a major source of ‘inspiration’ for the movie’s action sequences. Speaking to IGN on the red carpet at the film’s premiere on July 27, Tom Holland revealed that many of Spider-Man’s moves in the film were directly inspired by the video games. Holland said, “A lot of the action, a lot of the finishing moves. I was actually playing the game last night. I couldn’t sleep last night, I was so excited about today. I was trying to figure out what I was gonna do, and I was like, ‘I’ll just throw the game on and have some fun.'”The actor added, “For me, a lot of those finishing moves, a lot of our stuff was influenced by that stuff.”

Destin Daniel Cretton on recreating Insomniac Games scenes in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Director Destin Daniel Cretton also acknowledged that the stunt team frequently turned to the games while developing the film’s action sequences. He explained, “A lot of the action designers and stunt people we had were huge gamers. They were able to experience things in those games that made them excited, and they would just screengrab the moves they really liked and bring them into the writers’ room and show it to me. And then we’d be like, ‘Yeah, that’s sick. Let’s try to figure out how to do that for real.'”The director’s comments suggest that the similarities were an intentional homage rather than an attempt to conceal the source of inspiration.Released on July 31, 2026, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ sees Tom Holland return as Peter Parker after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, where he lives in a world that no longer remembers that he is Spider-Man.
