‘Spaceballs: The New One,’ the upcoming sequel to ‘Spaceballs,’ originally starring Bill Pullman, has created quite a bit of excitement. One of the biggest moments fans have been looking forward to is Bill Pullman’s return to the space comedy; however, this time he co-stars with his son, Lewis Pullman. During a recent interview, Lewis opened up about co-starring in the upcoming sequel, revealing just how nervous he was to work with his father.
Lewis Pullman talks about working with his father on ‘Spaceballs: The New One’
Lewis Pullman was announced to play the role of Prince Starburst, the son of Lone Starr and Princess Vespa in ‘Spaceballs: The New One,’ co-starring with his father. While talking to the audience at Comic-Con in San Diego during the ‘Spaceballs: The New One’ panel, the actor revealed what it was like to star in the film alongside his father.Stating that he was extremely nervous to play the role, Pullman added, “When this came along, I was like, ‘No, no way… I can’t,’ and then Pop was like, ‘Why don’t we read [the script]?’ And then I read it and was like, ‘Damn it. This is so good.’” He further added that his father was a big support on the film and did not force him to do anything. “He didn’t want to make me make the decision, and I didn’t want to step into his shoes,” the ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ star mentioned.While at first he was not fully sure whether to accept the role or not, Pullman added that “one of the funniest scripts I’ve ever read”, which made him ultimately green light the project from his end. He also recalled that, “I looked at the team, and I was like, ‘I would be a fool. It would be weird if I didn’t do it,’ and I would be on my deathbed and be like, ‘That was a weird choice.’”
About ‘Spaceballs: The New One’
The upcoming sequel film, besides the original cast, has cast Keke Palmer as Starburst’s advisor, Destiny, and Josh Gad as a ‘Mawg,’ the same species as Barf, as newcomers. Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, George Wyner, and Daphne Zuniga will be reprising their roles from the first film, which was released in 1987.The new film’s plot revolves around Dark Helmet’s return to destroy the galaxy where ideas no longer exist. Queen Vespa attends to her royal duties while Lone Starr stays in hiding after the events of the last film. It is up to Prince Starburst and his advisor to find Lone Starr to defeat Dark Helmet once and for all.The film franchise is a parody remake of the ‘Star Wars’ franchise; however, it will also incorporate themes from other films. ‘Spaceballs: The New One’ is slated for release on April 23, 2027.
